Ingredients

The ingredients are:
  • 1/2 cup onion, chopped
  • 5 ounces bacon, diced (5 slices)
  • 16 ounces sauerkraut (1 can)
  • 16 ounces diced tomatoes (1 can)
  • 1/4 teaspoon liquid smoke
  • 3/4 cup brown sugar, packed
  • 1/4 teaspoon salt
  • 1/8 teaspoon pepper

How to Make

  • Step 1: Preheat oven to 350F

  • Step 2: Fry bacon and onions in Dutch oven and season lightly.

  • Step 3: Add liquid smoke to tomatoes, and add to pot

  • Step 4: Add rest of ingredients.

  • Step 5: Some folks drain sauerkraut, some don't.

  • Step 6: Mix.

  • Step 7: Place in oven uncovered and bake for 1 1/2 hours until lightly caramelized.
