Ingredients

The ingredients are:
  • 2 1/2 cups water
  • 7 ounces white rice, dry (1 cup)
  • 1 1/4 teaspoon salt
  • 1 tablespoon butter
  • Cabbage
  • 5 ounces bacon, cut in 1/2 inch pieces (5 slices)
  • 8 ounces cabbage, cut into 1/2 inch strips (1/2 head)
  • 1 tablespoon sugar
  • 1/2 teaspoon salt, to taste
  • 1/4 teaspoon pepper
  • 1/4 teaspoon paprika
  • 2 tablespoons water
  • 4 ounces sour cream (1/2 cup)

How to Make

  • Step 1: Rice: Boil water, add rice, salt and butter.

  • Step 2: Cover and simmer on low for 20 minutes.

  • Step 3: Remove from heat and let stand covered (5 minutes) until all water is absorbed.

  • Step 4: Cabbage: While rice cooks, fry bacon in a large skillet until crisp.

  • Step 5: Remove bacon from pan and drain on paper towel. Stir cabbage into bacon grease and cook 1 minute. Stir in sugar, paprika, 2 tablespoons water and a dash of salt.

  • Step 6: Cover and cook for about 5 minutes.

  • Step 7: Add rice, bacon and sour cream .

  • Step 8: Heat through but don't boil or overcook.

  • Step 9: Season to taste.
