Step 1: Clean and cut vegetables into pieces 1-inch long.
Step 2: In a large, heavy saucepan, combine carrots, turnips, onions, celery, leeks, tomatoes, thyme, bay leaf, parsley, salt and pepper.
Step 3: Add consomme and bring to a boil and cook for 5 minutes.
Step 4: Add sausage.
Step 5: Cover and simmer for 1 hour.
Step 6: To serve: arrange vegetables in center of serving dish.
Step 7: Cut sausage into slices 1/2-inch thick and arrange slices in a crown around vegetables.
Step 8: Serve hot.
