Ingredients

The ingredients are:
  • 1 cup sugar
  • 1/2 cup butter (lard)
  • 1 cup buttermilk
  • 1 egg
  • 1 cup raisins
  • Dry
  • 2 cups flour
  • 1/2 teaspoon salt
  • 1 teaspoon baking soda
  • Glaze
  • 1 orange, zest and juice
  • 1/2 cup powdered sugar, sifted
  • 1/8 teaspoon salt

How to Make

  • Step 1: Preheat oven to 350 degrees F. (They used a wood stove)

  • Step 2: Grease and flour 9x9 cake pan.

  • Step 3: Sift dry ingredients.

  • Step 4: Add raisins.

  • Step 5: Cream butter and sugar and add egg.

  • Step 6: Alternate flour mix and buttermilk.

  • Step 7: Pour into cake pan.

  • Step 8: Bake 20 minutes? Until toothpick comes out clean. Check at 12 minutes.

  • Glaze

  • Step 9: Peel of one orange grated.

  • Step 10: Squeeze juice from orange and put in 1/2 cup sifted powdered sugar and a dash of salt.

  • Step 11: Let stand while cake is baking.

  • Step 12: Polk cake with fork so glaze goes into cake.

  • Step 13: Pour on cake when taken from oven.
