Ingredients

The ingredients are:
  • 2 cups all-purpose flour
  • 1/3 cup sugar
  • 2 teaspoons baking powder
  • 1/8 teaspoon salt
  • 1/2 cup butter, cut up
  • 2/3 cup whipping cream
  • 1 large egg
  • 1 tablespoon vanilla extract
  • 1 egg white
  • 1 teaspoon water
  • 2 tablespoons sparkling sugar or more (or whatever sugar you have that's intended to coat pastry (like crystalized sugar) without dissolving)
  • NOTE: These are freezer friendly where they can be cooled once removed from the oven, placed in freezer zip-loc bags. Can be kept in freezer for up to a month.

How to Make

  • Step 1: Combine first 4 ingredients. Cut butter into flour mixture with a pastry blender or fork until crumbly.

  • Step 2: Whisk together whipping cream, egg, and vanilla; add to flour mixture, stirring just until dry ingredients are moistened.

  • Step 3: Turn dough out onto a lightly floured surface; pat into an 8 1/2-inch circle. Cut into 8 wedges, and place 1-inch apart on a lightly greased baking sheet.

  • Step 4: Whisk together egg white and 1 teaspoon water; brush over tops of scones. Sprinkle with sparkling sugar.

  • Step 5: Bake at 425-degrees Fahrenheit for 15 minutes or until golden brown.
