  • 2 tablespoons margarine
  • 1 cup onions diced
  • 1 teaspoon salt
  • 1/4 teaspoon pepper
  • 1 pound potatoes, peeled, diced (4)
  • 8 cups milk
  • 15 ounces lima beans (1 can)
  • 1 cup frozen okra, sliced
  • 15 ounces tomatoes, diced (1 can)
  • 1/2 teaspoon baking soda
  • Slurry
  • 2 tablespoons cornstarch
  • 2 tablespoons water

How to Make

  • Step 1: In large stock pot, heat the margarine (they said butter substitute or pork fat, lard and bacon grease)

  • Step 2: Add onions and cook until translucent.

  • Step 3: Add potatoes and cook until tender.

  • Step 4: Add seasoning to taste.

  • Step 5: Add milk and simmer until potatoes are tender and add rest of veggies mixing baking soda into the tomatoes.

  • Step 6: Simmer for 20 minutes.

  • Step 7: Make a slurry with corn starch and water, add to soup and simmer until thickened.

  • Step 8: Season to taste.
