  • 2 pounds turnips, peeled, sliced
  • 6 cups water, boiling
  • 1 teaspoon salt
  • Sauce
  • 2 tablespoons butter
  • 1/4 teaspoon salt
  • 1/8 teaspoon pepper
  • 1 cup onions, sliced
  • 3/4 cup green bell pepper, diced
  • 1/3 cup celery, diced
  • 2 tablespoons flour
  • 1 cup milk
  • 4 ounces sharp cheddar cheese, shredded
  • Topping
  • 3 tablespoons bread crumbs

How to Make

  • Step 1: Boil turnip in salted water until just tender.

  • Step 2: Drain.

  • Step 3: Place in buttered Pam sprayed casserole.

  • Step 4: Meanwhile, melt butter and saute veggies until tender, seasoned to taste.

  • Step 5: Add flour and cook a bit.

  • Step 6: Add milk cook until thickened.

  • Step 7: Add cheese off the heat.

  • Step 8: Pour over turnips move around to get sauce mixed in.

  • Step 9: Top with bread crumbs.

  • Step 10: Brown in 350 degrees F oven for 20 minutes until hot and bubbly.
