The ingredients are:
  • 3 cups turnips, diced
  • 3 cups water boiling
  • 1/2 teaspoon salt
  • 1 teaspoon sugar
  • 1 cup celery, diced
  • 1/2 teaspoon salt
  • 1/8 teaspoon white pepper
  • 1 1/2 cups cream sauce
  • Topping
  • 1 cup bread crumbs
  • 2 tablespoons butter, melted

How to Make

  • Step 1: Butter 8 x 8 casserole.

  • Step 2: Cook turnips in boiling salted water for 20 minutes.

  • Step 3: Drain.

  • Step 4: Add 1 teaspoon sugar to the turnip as well as 1/2 teaspoon salt and pepper to taste.

  • Step 5: Arrange in casĀ­serole alternately with the celery.

  • Step 6: Pour on the cream sauce and cover with butĀ­tered crumbs.

  • Step 7: Bake at 400 degrees F. until crumbs are browned.
