  • 3 tablespoons oil
  • 2 cups onions diced
  • 3 carrots, sliced
  • 2 cloves garlic, smashed
  • 1 tablespoon smoked paprika
  • 1/2 teaspoon pepper
  • 1/2 teaspoon salt to taste
  • 2 pounds potatoes, peeled, diced
  • 1 turnip, peeled, diced
  • 6 cups water
  • 45 ounces kidney beans (3 cans)
  • 2 bay leaves
  • 2 cups sauerkraut
  • 3/4 cup tomato sauce
  • 1/2 teaspoon garlic powder
  • 1/4 teaspoon liquid smoke

How to Make

  • Step 1: In large stock pot, heat oil and add onions and carrots.

  • Step 2: Cook until onions are translucent.

  • Step 3: Add potatoes, turnips and garlic.

  • Step 4: Stir.

  • Step 5: Add paprika and the rest of ingredients.

  • Step 6: Simmer for 60 minutes, adding water as needed.

  • Step 7: Remove Bay leaf season to taste.
