  • 1/4 cup almonds, chopped
  • 1/2 cup maraschino cherries

  • 2 1/2 cups flour, sifted
  • 3 teaspoons baking powder
  • 3/4 cup sugar
  • 1/2 teaspoon salt
  • Wet
  • 1 egg, beaten
  • 1 cup milk
  • 1/4 cup cherry juice
  • 2 tablespoons butter, melted
  • 1 cup bran
  • Added
  • 1/2 cup maraschino cherries, chopped
  • 1/2 cup almonds, chopped

How to Make

  • Step 1: Preheat oven to 350 degrees F.

  • Step 2: Melt the butter in the bottom of a loaf pan (9x5x3 in.).

  • Step 3: Sprinkle the brown sugar and nuts over the butter and arrange the cherries.

  • Step 4: In a bowl sift the dry ingredients.

  • Step 5: Stir in the combined egg, milk, juice, butter and bran, only enough to moisten.

  • Step 6: Add the remaining cherries and nuts.

  • Step 7: Pour the batter over the mixture.

  • Step 8: Bake for 60 minutes or until a tester comes away clean.

  • Step 9: Remove to a rack.

  • Step 10: Serve sliced hot or cold.
