  • 2 tablespoons oil
  • 2 pounds beef stew meat
  • 3 tablespoons flour
  • 1 teaspoon salt
  • 1 teaspoon pepper
  • 1 teaspoon paprika
  • 1 cup onion, diced
  • 1 clove garlic, smashed
  • 8 cups beef broth
  • 12 ounces mushrooms, undrained (1 can)
  • 1 bay leaf
  • 1 teaspoon caraway seeds
  • 2 pounds potatoes, peeled, chopped
  • 2 carrots, sliced
  • 1 tablespoon dried parsley
  • 7 ounces dry barley (1 cup)

How to Make

  • Step 1: Add pepper paprika and salt to flour.

  • Step 2: Dredge meat in.

  • Step 3: Heat oil in stock pot.

  • Step 4: Brown beef and add onions cook until translucent.

  • Step 5: Add garlic and the rest of the flour.

  • Step 6: Brown.

  • Step 7: Add beef broth (2 beef bouillon cubes in 8 cups boiling water).

  • Step 8: Simmer 1 hour add rest of ingredients, except barley.

  • Step 9: Simmer 1 hour.

  • Step 10: Add barley simmer 30 minutes.

  • Step 11: Season to taste.
