Step 1: Preheat oven to 350 degrees.
Step 2: In a large bowl, cream shortening and sugar.
Step 3: Add eggs and mix.
Step 4: Add sour cream.
Step 5: In another bowl, combine all dry ingredients and add to creamed mixture.
Step 6: Mix in molasses and then pour into a greased 9 5/8-by-5 ½-by-2 ¾-inch loaf pan.
Step 7: Bake in preheated oven 45 minutes or until done.
Step 8: When done, remove from oven and cool completely. Remove from pan and cut in half lengthwise to make 2 layers.
Step 9: Prepare icing and spread between layers and on top.
Step 10: Beat until smooth.
