  • 3/4 cup sugar
  • 2 eggs
  • 1 cup sour cream
  • 2 cups flour
  • 1 teaspoon ground cinnamon
  • 1 teaspoon ground cloves
  • 2 tablespoons molasses
  • Icing
  • 2 cups powdered sugar, sifted
  • 1/4 cup shortening (Crisco)
  • 2 tablespoons milk,(cream)
  • 1 teaspoon vanilla extract

How to Make

  • Step 1: Preheat oven to 350 degrees.

  • Step 2: In a large bowl, cream shortening and sugar.

  • Step 3: Add eggs and mix.

  • Step 4: Add sour cream.

  • Step 5: In another bowl, combine all dry ingredients and add to creamed mixture.

  • Step 6: Mix in molasses and then pour into a greased 9 5/8-by-5 ½-by-2 ¾-inch loaf pan.

  • Step 7: Bake in preheated oven 45 minutes or until done.

  • Step 8: When done, remove from oven and cool completely. Remove from pan and cut in half lengthwise to make 2 layers.

  • Step 9: Prepare icing and spread between layers and on top.
