  • Step 1: Preheat oven to 350 F.

  • Step 2: Pam spray cookie sheet.

  • Step 3: Cream butter and brown sugar.

  • Step 4: Add flour and salt.

  • Step 5: Save 3/4 cup for topping.

  • Step 6: Add nuts to topping.

  • Step 7: Add the egg and vanilla to milk add baking soda.

  • Step 8: Pour into dry mixture and mix.

  • Step 9: Pour into cookie sheet, (shallow pan).

  • Step 10: Pour topping evenly over cake bake in moderate oven (350 degrees F.), until browned and cake tester comes out clean.

  • Step 11: Check at 20 minutes, no time given as they were using wood stoves back then.
