Ingredients

The ingredients are:
  • 60 ounces pinto beans, (4 cans - 15 ounces each)
  • 1/2 pound lean bacon
  • 1/4 cup onion, diced
  • 1/3 cup ketchup
  • 1/3 cup chili sauce
  • 3/4 teaspoon salt
  • 1/8 teaspoon pepper
  • 1/3 cup brown sugar
  • 2 cups water

How to Make

  • Step 1: If using dry beans:

  • Step 2: Wash beans well and soak overnight in 2 quarts of water.

  • Step 3: Drain.

  • Step 4: Add 7 cups of water and 1/2 teaspoon of salt.

  • Step 5: Cook in a pressure cooker at 15 lb. pressure for 25 minutes.

  • Step 6: Cool cooker at once and drain.

  • Step 7: For canned beans:

  • Step 8: While beans are cooking, dice and fry bacon and saute onion in bacon drippings.

  • Step 9: Using a 3-quart bean pot or casserole, stir together bacon, onions, beans, and remaining ingredients.

  • Step 10: Bake at 275° for 3 hours.
