Ingredients

The ingredients are:
  • 1 tablespoon oil
  • 1/2 pound beef stew meat
  • 4 ounces bacon, chopped, (4 strips)
  • 1 cup onion, finely chopped
  • 3 celery stalks, chopped fine
  • 1 carrot, sliced
  • 3 garlic cloves, coarsely chopped
  • 2 pounds red potatoes, cubed (2 cups)
  • 8 ounces mushrooms, sliced
  • 1/2 teaspoon dried oregano
  • 1 tablespoon dried parsley
  • 1/2 teaspoon seasoned salt
  • 1 tablespoon beef bouillon
  • 16 ounces brown lentils
  • 6 cups beef broth
  • 1/2 teaspoon black pepper
  • Slurry
  • 2 tablespoons cornstarch
  • 1 cup water

How to Make

  • Step 1: Heat oil in large stock pot.

  • Step 2: Season beef lightly.

  • Step 3: Add bacon and cook it a bit.

  • Step 4: Saute the beef, carrots and onions together until onions are translucent.

  • Step 5: Add celery and mushrooms.

  • Step 6: Add garlic and the rest of ingredients.

  • Step 7: Simmer covered for an hour until lentils are cooked.

  • Step 8: Season to taste.

  • Step 9: Add cornstarch slurry at the end bring to a boil stirring a lot.

  • Step 10: Serve.
