Step 1: Heat oil in large stock pot.
Step 2: Season beef lightly.
Step 3: Add bacon and cook it a bit.
Step 4: Saute the beef, carrots and onions together until onions are translucent.
Step 5: Add celery and mushrooms.
Step 6: Add garlic and the rest of ingredients.
Step 7: Simmer covered for an hour until lentils are cooked.
Step 8: Season to taste.
Step 9: Add cornstarch slurry at the end bring to a boil stirring a lot.
Step 10: Serve.
