The ingredients are:
  • 1 cup sugar
  • 3 tablespoons butter, softened
  • 1/8 teaspoon salt
  • 1/2 teaspoon nutmeg
  • 6 eggs, beaten
  • 2 cups milk
  • 1/2 teaspoon vanilla extract
  • 10 ounces unbaked deep dish pie crust, (1 -10 inch crust)

How to Make

  • Step 1: Preheat oven at 425 degrees F.

  • Step 2: In a large bowl, mix together sugar, butter, salt and nutmeg.

  • Step 3: Add whole eggs and beat well.

  • Step 4: Stir in milk and vanilla.

  • Step 5: Pour mixture into a 10-inch unbaked pie shell (sprinkle a little nutmeg on top) and bake 7 minutes at 425 degrees F.

  • Step 6: Lower heat to 325º and bake for 20-25 minutes or until it shimmies.

  • Step 7: Hint: You should rub a little flour or sugar in crust before you pour filling in it.

  • Step 8: Bake until custard is firm 1 1/2" from outside of pan. You can test this by putting the blade of a clean knife in and if it comes out clean, it is done.
