  • 3/4 teaspoon cream of tartar
  • 1/2 teaspoon baking soda
  • 1 1/2 cups sugar
  • 1 cup butter
  • 1 teaspoon vanilla
  • 1/4 teaspoon lemon juice
  • 4 eggs
  • 1 cup strawberry jam
  • 1/2 cup buttermilk
  • 1 cup chopped nuts (your favorite)

How to Make

  • Step 1: Preheat oven to 350°F.

  • Step 2: Combine flour, salt, cream of tartar and baking soda; set aside.

  • Step 3: Combine sugar, butter, vanilla and lemon juice in large bowl; cream until fluffy.

  • Step 4: Add eggs, one at a time (beating after each).

  • Step 5: Stir together jam and buttermilk; add to creamed mixture, alternating with dry ingredients. Mix until JUST BLENDED.

  • Step 6: Spoon batter into 2 greased 9x5 loaf pans.

  • Step 7: Bake 55 minutes; cool 15 minutes, then remove to a cooling rack.
