The ingredients are:
  • 1 3/4 cup white whole wheat flour
  • 2 teaspoons baking powder
  • 3/4 teaspoon sea salt
  • 1/2 teaspoon baking soda
  • 1 teaspoon black pepper, coarsely ground
  • 8 tablespoons butter
  • 8 ounces cheddar cheese, (1 cup), grated
  • 3/4 cup buttermilk

How to Make

  • Step 1: Preheat oven to 425 degrees F.

  • Step 2: Whisk dry ingredients together.

  • Step 3: Cut in butter.

  • Step 4: Add the cheese, then immediately afterwards, add the buttermilk.

  • Step 5: Mix for a minute or less, just long enough to bring the dough together.

  • Step 6: Turn the dough out onto a counter lightly dusted with flour.

  • Step 7: Knead it gently a few times to make it smooth, then roll it out into a circle about ½ inch thick.

  • Step 8: Cut the dough with your biscuit cutter dipped in flour.

  • Step 9: Re-roll the scraps and continue making biscuits until the dough is gone.

  • Step 10: Place the biscuits on the pan about a 1/2 inch apart.

  • Step 11: Bake until they are lightly browned, 12 to 15 minutes.
