Ingredients

The ingredients are:
  • 1/3 pound unsalted butter
  • 2 1/4 cups whole milk
  • 2/3 cups sugar
  • 1/2 teaspoon salt
  • 2 teaspoons ground cardamom
  • 2 tablespoons dry yeast (2 packets)
  • 5 1/2 cups flour

How to Make

  • Step 1: Melt the butter in the milk and heat to 98 F.

  • Step 2: Combine sugar, salt, cardamom and yeast in a large bowl with HALF the flour (2 3/4 cups). Add the warm milk mixture and stir to combine. Cover and let rise for 45 minutes.

  • Step 3: Add the rest of the flour. It will make a sticky dough. DO NOT KNEAD!!! Cover and let it rise in a warm spot for another 45 minutes.

  • Step 4: Preheat oven to 350 F. Form the dough into small buns and place in a buttered 8x8 pan. Beat the egg. Brush over the buns. Bake for 15 minutes.
