Ingredients

The ingredients are:
  • 3 tablespoons olive oil
  • 1 cup onions, diced
  • 1 clove garlic, smashed
  • 2 teaspoons seven spice mix
  • 10 cups water
  • 14 ounces red lentils, (2 cups)
  • 7 ounces dry white rice, (1 cup)
  • 1 tablespoon dried parsley
  • 1/2 teaspoon ground cumin, (they used 2 teaspoons)
  • 1/2 teaspoon red pepper flakes, to taste
  • 1 tablespoon lemon juice
  • 1/2 teaspoon salt
  • 1/4 teaspoon pepper
  • 1 lemon, wedged

How to Make

  • Step 1: Heat oil in large covered stock pot.

  • Step 2: Add onions cook until browned.

  • Step 3: Add garlic and spices, water, lentils and rice.

  • Step 4: Add herbs and cover and simmer for 30 minutes.

  • Step 5: At end stir in lemon juice.

  • Step 6: Season to taste.

  • Step 7: Serve with lemon wedges.
