Step 1: Grease 12 large muffin cups and set aside.
Step 2: In a large bowl, cream together butter and brown sugar.
Step 3: Beat in egg.
Step 4: Whisk the flour, baking powder, soda, salt, cinnamon and nutmeg together.
Step 5: Combine with raisins and walnuts (they said you could use almonds).
Step 6: Stir dry ingredients into the batter in 3 parts, alternating with the applesauce in 2 parts.
Step 7: Mix just until blended.
Step 8: Transfer to muffin cups, almost filling each cup.
Step 9: TOPPING:
Step 10: Combine all topping ingredients and spoon equally over muffins.
Step 11: Bake at 375 F for 20 minutes or until well risen and firm to the touch.
Step 12: Let cool on a rack and serve for breakfast or snacks.
Step 13: Makes 12 big muffins.
