Step 1: Place the potatoes in a large pot and cover them with cold water.
Step 2: Bring the water to a boil, then reduce the heat and cover the pot.
Step 3: Simmer for 30 minutes until the potatoes are tender.
Step 4: In a separate pot simmer milk and butter together, until butter has melted.
Step 5: Set aside
Step 6: Drain the potato saving 1/2 cup potato water
Step 7: Mash the potatoes with electric mixer .
Step 8: Gradually add the milk mixture into the mashed potatoes, enough to bind the mashed potatoes.
Step 9: Adjust as necessary if needed add some potato water
Step 10: Add the garlic powder and season to taste with salt and pepper to taste.
