The ingredients are:
  • 3 cups self rising flour
  • 1/4 teaspoon pepper
  • 1 tablespoon sugar
  • 3/4 cup butter,chilled
  • 1 egg
  • 2¼ cups buttermilk
  • 2 tablespoons bacon crumbles
  • 8 ounces cheddar cheese,(1 cup),grated
  • 2 tablespoons fresh chives, minced
  • 1 tablespoon butter, melted

How to Make

  • Step 1: Pre-heat the oven to 350° F

  • Step 2: Grease a 9-inch by 5-inch loaf pan generously with butter.

  • Step 3: Pam spray it

  • Step 4: Combine the self-rising flour, sugar and pepper in a large bowl.

  • Step 5: Cut in the butter into the dry mixture .

  • Step 6: Beat the egg and buttermilk together

  • Step 7: Pour the wet ingredients into the flour mixture.

  • Step 8: Stir just until the ingredients are combined

  • Step 9: The batter will be wet.

  • Step 10: Fold the cooked bacon, cheddar cheese and chives into the batter and transfer the batter to the prepared loaf pan

  • Step 11: Bake 50 minutes until the bread is mostly done spread butter over the top and bake another 5minutes until browned

  • Step 12: Turn out and let rest 20 minutes on rack before cutting
