  • 1/4 cup red wine
  • 1 teaspoon dried thyme
  • 2 cups beef broth
  • 1 tablespoon worcestershire sauce
  • 1 tablespoon dijon mustard
  • 1/4 teaspoon black pepper
  • 1 teaspoon salt
  • 1 tablespoon balsamic vinegar

How to Make

  • Step 1: In a cast iron skillet

  • Step 2: Melt the butter over medium high heat.

  • Step 3: Add the sliced onions and brown sugar and cook for about 30 minutes, stirring frequently.

  • Step 4: Cook until they are caramelized or a golden brown color.

  • Step 5: Add the red wine and herbs and bring to a rapid boil.

  • Step 6: Reduce heat to a simmer for about 10 minutes.

  • Step 7: Add the beef broth, Worcestershire sauce, dijon mustard, salt, pepper and balsamic vinegar and bring to a boil.

  • Step 8: Reduce the heat to a low simmer and cover.

  • Step 9: Cook covered for about 20 minutes or until thickened.
