Ingredients

The ingredients are:
  • 2 tablespoons butter or bacon drippings
  • 1 large carrots, grated
  • 1 onion, diced
  • 1/2 red bell pepper, diced
  • 1 meaty ham bone
  • 1 pound dry split peas (green or yellow)
  • 6 cups chicken broth (can use vegetable broth)
  • 1 tablespoon apple cider vinegar
  • 2 bay leaves
  • 1/2 teaspoon dried thyme
  • Salt and black pepper to taste

How to Make

  • Step 1: Press the “sauté” button, add butter and sauté onion and red pepper; cook until softened.

  • Step 2: Add the remaining ingredients.

  • Step 3: Place the cover over instant pot, turn to close and set release valve to sealing position.

  • Step 4: Set to manual for 15 minutes and let it do it’s work.

  • Step 5: Turn instant pot off and let the pressure release naturally for 20 minutes then turn valve to allow for quick release.

  • Step 6: Take the cover off and remove bay leaves from soup.

  • Step 7: Take the ham bone out and take ham pieces off bone and mix into soup.

  • Step 8: Enjoy!
