Ingredients

  • 1/4 cup flour
  • 1/4 teaspoon pepper
  • 1/2 teaspoon salt
  • 1/2 teaspoon paprika
  • 3 pounds beef chuck roast
  • 2 tablespoons oil
  • 1 cup water
  • 1 can (14-1/2 ounces) tomatoes,diced
  • 1 teaspoon caraway seeds
  • 1 envelope (1/4 ounce) onion soup mix
  • 2 bay leaves
  • Gravy:
  • 1/4 cup cold water
  • 3 tablespoons flour

How to Make

  • Step 1: In a large resealable plastic bag, combine flour and seasonings.

  • Step 2: Add beef; turn to coat.

  • Step 3: In a Dutch oven, brown roast over medium heat in oil on all sides.

  • Step 4: Drain

  • Step 5: Put in crockpot

  • Step 6: Add water to pan get all bits up

  • Step 7: Add with rest of ingredients to crockpot

  • Step 8: Cook on low 8 hours

  • Step 9: Add water if needed

  • Step 10: Remove Bay leaves

  • Step 11: Last half hour

  • Step 12: Add gravy mix cook until thickened

  • Step 13: Season to taste

  • Step 14: Let meat rest 5 minutes before slicing
