Ingredients

The ingredients are:
  • 2 apples, such as Empire, Braeburn, or Cortland, etc. cored and chopped
  • 4 tablespoons pure maple syrup, plus more for serving
  • 2 teaspoons ground cinnamon
  • 1/4 - 1/2 teaspoon kosher salt
  • 6 tablespoons water
  • 1 cup old-fashioned rolled oats
  • 2 cups water (or can use all milk or a combination of milk and water)
  • Chopped toasted pecans, for serving

How to Make

  • Step 1: In a saucepan, heat apple, butter, maple syrup, cinnamon, salt, and 6 tablespoons water over medium-high until simmering. Cover and cook until apples are tender, about 5-6 minutes. Reserve 1 cup apple mixture for garnish.

  • Step 2: Add oats and 2 cups water (or milk or combination of water and milk) to saucepan with remaining apple mixture and simmer, uncovered and stirring occasionally, until oats are creamy, about 5 minutes.

  • Step 3: Serve with reserved apple mixture, pecans, and more maple syrup, if desired.
