  • 1/3 cup Crisco
  • 1 egg
  • 1 cup sugar
  • 1 cup milk
  • 1 teaspoon vanilla
  • 2 cups flour
  • 6 tablespoons unsweetened cocoa
  • 1 1/2 teaspoons baking soda
  • 1 teaspoon salt
  • Filling:
  • 2 tablespoons flour
  • 1/2 cup milk
  • 1 pinch salt
  • 1/2 cup sugar
  • 1/2 cup Crisco
  • 2 teaspoons vanilla

How to Make

  • Step 1: WHOOPIE PIES: Mix the Crisco, sugar, and egg till fluffy; slowly add the milk and vanilla and mix well.

  • Step 2: Add flour, cocoa, soda, and salt; beat well.

  • Step 3: Drop by spoonfuls on ungreased baking sheet; bake at 350 degrees for 7-10 minutes.

  • Step 4: FILLING: Using a jar for a shaker, put in the flour and milk and shake well; place in a saucepan and cook SLOWLY over medium heat till very thick and smooth; cool.

  • Step 5: In an electric mixer put the crisco, sugar, and vanilla and beat 5-6 minutes.

  • Step 6: Add the cooled paste and beat for another 5 minutes till very light and fluffy; then turn the mixer on high and beat a couple more minutes (it is worth it).

  • Step 7: Fill the pies and put into baggies.
