Ingredients

The ingredients are:
  • 1 teaspoon yeast
  • 1⁄4 cup milk,lukewarm
  • 1 teaspoon sugar
  • 1 tablespoon flour
  • 1⁄2 pound butter, melted
  • 8 ounces light cream, half and half,(1 cup)
  • 4 egg yolks, beaten
  • 3⁄4 teaspoon salt
  • 1 tablespoon sugar
  • 4 cups flour
  • 1 egg white, beaten
  • Poppy seed filling:
  • 1⁄2 pound ground poppy seed
  • 3⁄4 cup sugar
  • 1⁄2 cup milk,warm
  • Walnut filling:
  • 1 pound ground walnuts
  • 1⁄2 cup sugar
  • 1⁄2 cup milk,warm

How to Make

  • Step 1: Dissolve yeast in lukewarm milk(may need more yeast)

  • Step 2: Add 1 teaspoon sugar and 1 tablespoon flour

  • Step 3: Set aside.

  • Step 4: Melt butter

  • Step 5: Add 1/2 and 1/2 cream and beaten egg yolks

  • Step 6: Add this mixture to the yeast mixture.

  • Step 7: To the combined mixture

  • Step 8: Add salt, 1 tablespoon sugar and flour; mix together, and divide into 4 parts.

  • Step 9: Put in refrigerator overnight.( the dough is very soft so must be chilled to work with ).

  • Step 10: Roll each part 1/2 inch thick.

  • Step 11: Spread with filling. ( i use solo brand canned filling here , but i put recipe of how they made the filling so its not lost ).

  • Step 12: Sprinkle with butter; roll into loaves as for a jelly roll;( spray sheet with pam cause these suckers stick) let stand 2 hours covered

  • Step 13: Brush with egg white slightly beaten.

  • Step 14: Bake at 375 degrees Fahrenheit for 35 minutes

  • Step 15: Check at 22 minutes so they don't get to done
