Step 3: Sift together dry ingredients.
Step 4: Stir oil and sugar together thoroughly.
Step 5: Add to the flour mixture and blend.
Step 6: Stir in hot applesauce.
Step 7: Mix in raisins and nuts.
Step 8: Pour into pan.
Step 9: Bake in a preheated 325-degree F oven for 55 minutes.
Step 10: Cool the cake in the pan for 5 minutes before turning out onto a wire rack.
Step 11: Frost cake when thoroughly cooled.
Step 12: To make caramel icing
Step 13: Melt butter in a pan and add brown sugar.
Step 14: Bring to a boil and cook, stirring constantly, about 2 minutes.
Step 15: Add milk and beat well.
Step 16: Return to full boil.
Step 17: Cool to lukewarm and add in powdered sugar
