Ingredients

The ingredients are:
  • 1 1/2 cups whole wheat flour
  • 1/2 cup all-purpose flour
  • 1 tablespoon baking powder
  • 1/2 teaspoon salt
  • 2 tablespoons butter (frozen and grated, or margarine)
  • 1 cup non-fat milk
  • Herbs - add to the dry ingredients
  • 1/4 teaspoon basil
  • 1/4 teaspoon thyme
  • 1 teaspoon dried parsley

How to Make

  • Step 1: Combine flours, baking powder and salt in a bowl. Cut in frozen butter with a pastry blender or 2 knives. Add milk, mix quickly. Turn out onto a floured board.

  • Step 2: Knead 6 to 8 times.

  • Step 3: Pat or Roll 1/4 inch thick. Cut into 12, 2 inch round biscuits or into wedges or squares.

  • Step 4: Place on a lightly greased baking sheet. Bake in a 425°F oven 12 to 15 minutes until lightly browned.

  • Step 5: For herb biscuits, add basil, thyme and parsley to dry ingredients. (These make great dumplings).
