Ingredients

The ingredients are:
  • 4 teaspoons oil (vegetable oil)
  • 1 yellow onion, finely chopped
  • 1 carrot, finely chopped
  • 1 celery rib, finely chopped
  • 2 cloves garlic
  • 1 hot green chilli pepper (optional)
  • 1/4 teaspoon salt
  • 1/4 teaspoon pepper
  • 250 grams Italian sausages (casings removed)
  • 2 cans (28 ounces each) whole tomatoes
  • 1 can (19 ounce) navy beans (drained and rinsed)
  • 1 cup sodium-reduced chicken broth (and water)
  • 1/3 cup chopped fresh oregano
  • 1 teaspoon granulated sugar

How to Make

  • Step 1: In Dutch Oven heat oil over medium heat; cook onion, carrot, celery, garlic, chilli pepper (optional), salt and pepper, stirring occasionally, until softened, about 6 min.

  • Step 2: Increase heat to medium high; add sausages and sauté for 5 min., breaking up with spoon. Stir in tomatoes, breaking up with spoon. Add beans, chicken broth, water, oregano and sugar; bring to boil. Reduce heat and simmer until slightly thickened, 15 to 20 min. Discard chilli pepper (if using).
