Step 1: Heat oven to 350º.
Step 2: Spread oats and walnuts in ungreased 151/2 x 101/2 x 1-inch baking pan.
Step 3: Bake 15-20 minutes, stirring occasionally, until toasted and light brown
Step 4: Cool.
Step 5: In small bowl
Step 6: Stir together flour, baking soda and salt.
Step 7: Cream together brown sugar, butter ,vanilla and egg in large bowl.
Step 8: Stir in oat mixture and then flour mixture.
Step 9: Drop dough by rounded tablespoonfuls about 2 inches apart onto ungreased baking sheets.
Step 10: Bake at 350° for 8 minutes or until golden brown. Cool on pans for 3 minutes
Step 11: Remove from cookie sheet.
Step 12: Cool on wire rack.
