Ingredients

The ingredients are:
  • SOAK
  • 2 pounds dry beans (Great northern beans)
  • 8 cups water
  • FOR SOUP
  • 4 cups water
  • 1 pound ham bone
  • 1/2 cup onions , chopped
  • 2 carrots ,thinly sliced
  • 2 stalks celery, sliced
  • 1/8 teaspoon yellow mustard
  • 1/8 cup green bell peppers, minced
  • 1/2 cup tomato puree
  • 1 whole clove
  • 2 peppercorns
  • SPICES - not added to original
  • 1/16 teaspoon ground clove
  • 1 teaspoon salt
  • 1/2 teaspoon coarsely ground black pepper

How to Make

  • Step 1: Soak beans covered with water overnight

  • Step 2: Drain

  • Step 3: Place in Pam sprayed crockpot

  • Step 4: You can put spices in teaball or muslim bag

  • Step 5: Put rest of ingredients together

  • Step 6: Cook on low six hours adding water as needed

  • Step 7: Remove spices and hambone

  • Step 8: Season to taste with spices not added,to taste
