Ingredients

The ingredients are:
  • Kuchen Dough:
  • 1 cup flour, sifted
  • 1/2 teaspoon baking powder
  • 1/4 teaspoon salt
  • 2 tablespoons sugar
  • 1 teaspoon cinnamon
  • 2 1/2 tablespoons butter
  • 2 eggs, beaten
  • 2 tablespoons milk
  • Apple Filling:
  • 5 cups apples, sliced (fresh raw apples)
  • 1/2 cup golden raisins
  • 2/3 cup sugar (brown or white)
  • 1 - 2 teaspoons ground cinnamon
  • 4-6 tablespoons butter, cut into pieces
  • 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
  • 1 tablespoon lemon peel, grated

How to Make

  • Kuchen Dough:

  • Step 1: Combine flour, baking powder, salt, sugar and cinnamon. Work butter into mix with a wooden spoon. Add eggs and bet well. Stir in milk.

  • Step 2: Grease an 8-inch spring-form pan, and with a rubber spatula spread dough on bottom of pan and part way up sides of pan.

  • Apple Filling:

  • Step 3: Place apple slices and raisins in enough water to cover, then cook until apples are just tender but have not lost their shape. Drain. (or you can remove the lid part way through cooking, letting the liquid evaporate), being careful not to let it scorch).

  • Step 4: Combine sugar, cinnamon, butter, and lemon peel and stir gently into apples and raisins. Spoon into dough-lined pan and bake at 425 degrees-F. for about 50- 60 minutes. Serve hot with almond-flavored whipped cream, preferred.
