  • Streusel Topping:
  • 1/3 cup regular oats
  • 1/3 cup all-purpose flour
  • 1/3 cup light brown sugar, firmly packed
  • 1/4 cup cold unsalted butter, cut in pieces
  • 1/3 cup pecans, chopped
  • Cobbler:
  • 1/2 cup butter or margarine
  • 2 tablespoons whipping cream
  • 1 cup granulated sugar
  • 1/4 cup firmly packed light brown sugar
  • 1 teaspoon ground cinnamon
  • 1/4 teaspoon ground nutmeg
  • 1/4 teaspoon salt
  • 2 pounds sweet potatoes (3 large), peeled and thinly sliced
  • 1/3 cup butter or margarine
  • 1 2/3 cup self-rising flour
  • 1/2 cup buttermilk
  • Streusel Topping

How to Make

  • Step 1: Make streusel: Comgine oats, flour and sugar. Cut in butter with a pastry blender or fork until crumbly. Stir in chopped pecans. Set aside.

  • Step 2: Make cobbler: Preheat oven to at 350°. Melt 1/2 cup butter in a 10 inch cast-iron skillet over medium heat.

  • Step 3: Whisk in whipping cream and next 5 ingredients. Remove from heat.

  • Step 4: Layer sweet potato slices evenly in cream mixture. Cover with aluminum foil, and place on a baking sheet. Bake for 20 minutes. Uncover.

  • Step 5: Cut 1/3 cup butter into flour with a fork or pastry blender until crumbly; stir in buttermilk until moistened. Turn dough out onto a lightly floured surface; knead 3 to 4 times.

  • Step 6: Pat or roll dough to a 10 1/2-inch circle; place over cobbler. Sprinkle with Streusel Topping.

  • Step 7: Bake, uncovered, for 25 minutes or until golden.
