Ingredients

The ingredients are:
  • 3/4 cup buttermilk, cold
  • 1/2 cup green onions, chopped
  • 2 cups self rising flour
  • 1/2 cup yellow cornmeal
  • 3 tablespoons sugar
  • 1/2 tsp coarse ground black pepper
  • 1/2 cup butter, cold (unsalted)
  • Topping
  • 1 tablespoon butter, melted
  • 1/16 teaspoon sea salt
  • 1/8 teaspoon pepper

How to Make

  • Step 1: Heat oven to 425 degrees F.

  • Step 2: Line baking sheet with parchment paper.

  • Step 3: Combine buttermilk and onions in medium bowl.

  • Step 4: Whisk flour, cornmeal, sugar and 1/2 tsp black pepper in large bowl to combine.

  • Step 5: Add 1/2 cup chilled butter and rub into flour with fingers until it resembles coarse meal.

  • Step 6: Add buttermilk mixture and stir just till moist clumps form.

  • Step 7: Turn dough onto floured board and knead gently to combine three or four turns.

  • Step 8: Roll out to 3/4-inch thickness and cut rounds with a two-inch floured cutter.

  • Step 9: Place biscuits on sheet pan.

  • Step 10: Re roll scraps, cut and add to sheet pan.

  • Step 11: Brush tops with the melted butter and sprinkle the tops with a little more pepper and light sea salt.

  • Step 12: Bake until golden brown, about 20 minutes.

  • Step 13: Cool slightly, serve warm.
