How to Make

  • Step 1: Preheat the oven to 400 degrees F.

  • Step 2: Melt the butter in an 8-inch square pan.

  • Step 3: Sift together the flour, sugar, salt, and baking powder in a large bowl.

  • Step 4: Whisk in cornmeal

  • Step 5: Stir in 1 cup plus 2 T of the milk and the egg, mixing only enough to dampen the cornmeal mixture.

  • Step 6: Pour the batter into the pan.

  • Step 7: Pour the remaining 1/2 cup milk over the batter and stir.

  • Step 8: Bake for 35 minutes, until the top is golden and a toothpick inserted into the center comes out clean
