Ingredients

The ingredients are:
  • 1/4 cup onion, minced
  • 1 tablespoon fresh chives, minced
  • 1 tablespoon butter
  • 2 cups flour
  • 1 tablespoon baking powder
  • 1 teaspoon salt
  • 1⁄2 teaspoon baking soda
  • 1⁄4 cup butter, cut into 1/4-inch dice
  • 1 1⁄2 cups buttermilk
  • 8 ounces ham,(1 cup) ,diced
  • 8 ounces sharp cheddar cheese,diced small(1 cup)
  • 2 tablespoons butter, melted

How to Make

  • Step 1: Preheat oven to 500°F

  • Step 2: Line a baking sheet with parchment paper. Combine onion and tablespoon butter in a skillet over medium-low heat and cook until tender but not browned, about 5 minutes

  • Step 3: Cool.

  • Step 4: In a bowl

  • Step 5: Whisk flour, baking powder, salt and baking soda add butter and mix with your fingers until mealy in texture.

  • Step 6: Add the onions,chives, buttermilk, ham and cheese, stirring in with a spatula until just incorporated, but it still should be a bit loose.

  • Step 7: Scoop out the batter with a large spoon to form 12 biscuits and lightly shape them with floured hands.

  • Step 8: Arrange close together on the baking sheet for soft biscuits, or spread them apart for crisper biscuits.

  • Step 9: Brush with hot melted butter.

  • Step 10: Bake 5 minutes then reduce temperature to 450F and bake a further 15 minutes or until deep golden brown.
