Ingredients

  • 2 cups raisins
  • 1 cup water
  • 1 cup butter, softened
  • 1 cup brown sugar
  • 1 cup granulated sugar
  • 2 eggs
  • 3 cups flour
  • 1 teaspoon baking soda
  • 3/4 teaspoon salt
  • 1 1/4 teaspoons cinnamon
  • 1/2 teaspoon nutmeg
  • 1/4 teaspoon allspice
  • 2 cups rolled oats
  • 1/2 cup nuts, chopped (optional)

How to Make

  • Step 1: In a saucepan over medium high heat add the raisins and water and bring to a boil. Boil for 5 minutes and then let cool to room temperature.

  • Step 2: In the bowl of an electric mixer cream the butter and sugars together. Beat in eggs one at a time.

  • Step 3: Stir in the remaining ingredients (baking soda - nuts). Pour in the raisins and the juice (from boiling the raisins); stir well to combine.

  • Step 4: Drop by spoonfuls onto greased baking sheets.

  • Step 5: Bake at 350 degrees F for 10-15 minutes.

  • Step 6: We made 3 dozen from this recipe but the original recipe says it should make 6 dozen.
