Step 1: Preheat oven to 350 F. Grease cookie sheets.
Step 2: In a large bowl, mix all of the ingredients together until the dough forms a very thick batter. Stir vigorously with a wooden spoon. Use the spoon to mash the mixture against the side of the bowl if there are any bits of shortening not dissolved into the batter.
Step 3: Drop by the teaspoon 2 inches apart onto the cookie sheets. Bake until the edges are firm and slightly darker than the rest of the cookie, about 10-15 minutes.
Step 4: Cool cookies on a wire rack, then store in sealed containers. Will stay fresh for up to 3 days.
