  • Pastry for a 9-inch pie
  • 3 cups halved fresh strawberries
  • 2 cups fresh rhubarb (cut in 1-inch pieces)
  • 1 1/2 cups sugar
  • 6 tablespoons all-purpose flour or 3 tablespoons cornstarch
  • 1/4 teaspoon salt
  • Pinch of cinnamon (optional)
  • Pinch of nutmeg (optional)
  • 1 tablespoon butter

How to Make

  • Step 1: Combine strawberries, rhubarb, sugar, flour, salt and spices. Toss to mix thoroughly.

  • Step 2: Turn fruit mixture into an 8-inch square baking dish and dot with butter. Cover pastry, turning the edges of the pastry under and sealing them to the dish.

  • Step 3: Slash pastry to allow steam to escape. Brush lightly with milk and sprinkle with sugar.

  • Step 4: Bake at 400°F about 45 minutes. Serve slightly warm, with ice cream.
