Ingredients

The ingredients are:
  • 4 baked(28 ounces) pastry shells, (7 ounces each),( 9 inch ), (partially cooked)
  • 4 cups brown sugar,packed
  • 40 ounces light cream, (1 1/2 quarts)
  • 1/2 teaspoons salt
  • 1 1/2 cups butter
  • 1/2 cup margarine
  • 5 1/3 ounces cornstarch,(about a scant 3/4 cup)
  • 2 teaspoons nutmeg

How to Make

  • Step 1: Heat to boiling the half and half, 3 cups sugar and salt.

  • Step 2: Mix together 1 cup sugar and cornstarch. Add boiling milk mixture gradually to sugar-cornstarch mixture.

  • Step 3: Set aside about 2 tablespoons butter, add remaining butter and margarine to sugar mixture;

  • Step 4: Return to heat and cook, stirring until thick.

  • Step 5: Pour into baked shells and sprinkle with nutmeg and a few dots of the reserved butter.

  • Step 6: Bake at 350 degrees until lightly browned, about 15 minutes
