Ingredients

The ingredients are:
  • 1 1/2 pounds beef chuck roast, cut into inch cubes
  • 1 tablespoon dried red peppercorn
  • 1 tablespoons ginger,grated
  • 1 clove garlic,smashed
  • 2 tablespoons shaoxing cooking wine
  • 1/2 cup soy sauce
  • 1 tablespoon sugar
  • 5 star anise pods
  • 2 bay leaves
  • 2 scallions, minced
  • 3 teaspoons chili bean paste
  • 5 dried bird chiles
  • 4 cups water
  • 2 cups carrots, sliced
  • 1 cup daikon radish,sliced
  • 1/2 teaspoon salt, to taste
  • Garnish:
  • 2 green onion,minced
  • 2 tablespoons cilantro,minced
  • 8 ounces dry spaghetti

How to Make

  • Step 1: Heat oil in a pot on medium-low

  • Step 2: Add dried peppercorn.

  • Step 3: Stir a few minutes until the peppercorns are fragrant

  • Step 4: Before the peppercorn burns, use a straining spoon to remove from oil

  • Step 5: Add beef and ginger to hot oil

  • Step 6: Brown

  • Step 7: Add garlic and shallots

  • Step 8: Saute a minute

  • Step 9: Add to crockpot with everything else but garnish

  • Step 10: Simmer on low for 6 hours until beef is tender

  • Step 11: Cook spaghetti separately

  • Step 12: Drain

  • Step 13: And add some to bowl then add soup on top

  • Step 14: Garnish
