Step 1: Preheat oven to 400 degrees
Step 2: Mix together all the dry ingredients
Step 3: Add enough buttermilk to form a nice soft dough.(have 2 cups of buttermilk handy )
Step 4: Turn out on a lightly floured board and knead lightly.
Step 5: Form dough into a circle.
Step 6: On greased baking sheet.
Step 7: The dough should be about 1 1/2 to 2 inches high.
Step 8: Cut a cross 1/2 inch deep over the top with a floured knife.
Step 9: This helps bread cook more evenly.
Step 10: Bake in preheated 400 degrees F. oven for 40 minutes (or until loaf sounds hollow when rapped lightly on the base with the knuckles).
Step 11: Remove bread from pan
Step 12: Cool on a wire cake rack.
Step 13: Bread should not be cut until it firms up
