Ingredients

The ingredients are:
  • 3 tablespoons flour
  • 5 tablespoons butter
  • 6 (2 pounds) crabs (hard shell crabs, raw, and cut into pieces, 6 crabs)
  • 2 bay leaves
  • 1 teaspoon thyme, dried
  • 1 pound okra, raw and sliced
  • 2 pounds tomatoes, skins removed and chopped (you need 6 tomatoes)
  • 1 quart liquor (oyster liquor, if unable to find use clam broth)
  • Salt & pepper
  • 1 pound shrimp (raw and peeled)
  • 7 pounds oysters (raw, you need 5 dozen oysters)

How to Make

  • Step 1: In a pot or Dutch oven on low heat combine the flour and butter, stirring constantly, until it starts to brown. Add the raw crabs to the browned butter; stirring for a few minutes before adding the bay leaves and thyme.

  • Step 2: Stir in the okra and cook for a few minutes.

  • Step 3: Stir in tomatoes and cook for a few minutes, stirring.

  • Step 4: Stir in 1 quart of the liquor and 1 quart of water; season with salt and pepper. Let simmer for 1 1/2 hours. Ten minutes before serving add the shrimp and raw oysters.

  • Step 5: Serve with rice.
