How to Make

  • Step 1: Preheat oven to 350 degrees.

  • Step 2: Butter a tube pan.

  • Step 3: Cream butter and sugar.

  • Step 4: Add the egg yolks to the creamed butter mixture and mix well.

  • Step 5: Sift 1 1/3 cups flour and baking powder together in a separate bowl.

  • Step 6: Gradually beat milk and flour mixture into the butter mixture, alternating milk and flour.

  • Step 7: Beat the egg whites with cream of tartar until stiff in a separate bowl.

  • Step 8: Fold ¼ cup flour into the egg whites.

  • Step 9: Fold egg whites into the batter.

  • Step 10: Mix 1/3 of the batter with cocoa in a separate bowl.

  • Step 11: Fill the tube pan, alternating half of the white batter with the cocoa batter.

  • Step 12: Bake for 50-60 minutes to an hour, until toothpick comes out clean.
