Ingredients

The ingredients are:
  • 2 tablespoons olive oil
  • 1/4 cup onion, diced
  • 1 teaspoon minced garlic
  • 1 can (29 ounce) tomato sauce
  • 1/4 cup honey
  • 1/4 cup cider vinegar
  • 1 tablespoon molasses
  • 2 tablespoons vinegar (red wine vinegar)
  • 1/8 ground cinnamon
  • 1 tablespoon cornstarch
  • 1/4 cup water (cold to make a slurry)

How to Make

  • Step 1: Heat olive oil in a medium saucepan. Add onions and cook until translucent then add garlic and cook until garlic turns golden without burning.

  • Step 2: Add tomato sauce, honey, cider vinegar, molasses, red wine vinegar and cinnamon and stir together. t Bring mixture to a boil, then lower heat and simmer for 1 hour.

  • Step 3: With an immersion blender, blend mixture until smooth.

  • Step 4: Make a slurry from the cornstarch and cold water and stir it in the pot.

  • Step 5: Increase heat to medium and bring mixture to a boil. If you want thicker ketchup, add more cornstarch to a little extra cold water and stir in, heat, boil, etc.

  • Step 6: When your preferred thickness has been reached, remove from heat, cool, store in a container and chill.
