Ingredients

The ingredients are:
  • 3/4 cups flour
  • 1 teaspoon salt
  • 1/4 teaspoon pepper
  • 2 pounds beef stew meat, cut into 1-inch cubes
  • 2 tablespoons bacon grease
  • 2 cups onions, chopped
  • 1 garlic clove, minced
  • 1 teaspoon dill weed
  • 1 teaspoon caraway seeds
  • 1 teaspoon paprika
  • 2 cups water
  • 8 ounces sour cream
  • 1 jar (28 ounces ) sauerkraut, rinsed and well drained
  • 1/2 teaspoon paprika
  • 2 green onions,minced

How to Make

  • Step 1: Combine the flour, salt and pepper.

  • Step 2: Add beef and toss to coat.

  • Step 3: In a Dutch oven

  • Step 4: Brown the beef in bacon grease in batches

  • Step 5: Add all meat back in

  • Step 6: Add the onions, garlic, dill, caraway, paprika

  • Step 7: Cook until onions softened

  • Step 8: Add water.

  • Step 9: Cover and simmer for 2 hours or until meat is tender, adding water as needed stirring every 15 minutes

  • Step 10: Stirring occasionally.

  • Step 11: Stir in sour cream with a tablespoon of the flour mixed in

  • Step 12: Heat through but do not boil.

  • Step 13: Heat sauerkraut

  • Step 14: Drain and spoon onto a serving platter. Top with the beef mixture.

  • Step 15: Sprinkle with paprika and green onions.
