Ingredients

The ingredients are:
  • 4 egg yolks
  • 2/3 cups granulated sugar
  • 2 cups heavy whipping cream
  • 1 cup whole milk
  • 1/4 teaspoon salt
  • 1 tablespoon pure vanilla extract
  • 1/4 cup maraschino cherries,chopped
  • 1 bag (12 ounces) frozen cherries

How to Make

  • Step 1: Use a mixer to cream yolks and sugar together until light and creamy.

  • Step 2: Meanwhile

  • Step 3: In a large saucepan

  • Step 4: Add whipping cream and whole milk. Heat over medium heat stirring frequently until mixture warms and begins to bubble around the edges {but not boil}.

  • Step 5: Remove from heat.

  • Step 6: Temper egg yolk mixture by adding some of the warm milk mixture to the egg yolk mixture.

  • Step 7: Gradually

  • Step 8: Pour egg yolk mixture to the milk/cream mixture and stir well to combine.

  • Step 9: Cook over medium heat until mixture thickens.

  • Step 10: Remove from heat and allow mixture to cool.

  • Step 11: Once cooled

  • Step 12: Transfer yolk/milk mixture to a high-speed blender and add salt, vanilla and 1 cup frozen cherries.

  • Step 13: Blend mixture on high until cherries are fully incorporated.

  • Step 14: Transfer mixture to refrigerator to chill completely.

  • Step 15: Once chilled

  • Step 16: Add mixture to ice cream maker and follow manufacturer's directions for churning.

  • Step 17: When churning process is a couple of minutes from being complete, add ½ cup frozen coarsely chopped cherries and maraschino cherries halved.
